Created by one of the best polish fantasy authors, Krzysztof Piskorski, the story of Tainted Grail: the Fall of Avalon aims to push the boundaries of non-linear narrative, building upon the rich experience Awaken Realms has infusing ambitious stories with excellent board game mechanics and striking visuals. Many secrets can be discovered only after several games. As you slowly put all the pieces of the larger puzzle together, the land will always have a surprise waiting for you just around the corner. Places and characters are often much more than they seem. All locations have their own rich stories and secrets to discover. In Avalon, there’s a legend waiting behind every stone and every tree.

Regardless whether you fight with your strength or your wits, our unique dice-less encounter system makes resolving each conflict fun and exciting, while keeping you immersed in the game. Sometimes you will need to brute force your way, but often diplomacy might be a better option.

The character you develop is going to be tested during dozens of combat and non-combat encounters. These traits unlock a rich choice of mutually exclusive skills and lead to different deck-building strategies, making character advancement meaningful and deep. To overcome these challenges, your character develops along several conflicting lines, such as Brutality / Empathy or Practicality / Spirituality. Guardian Menhirs, that ensured safe travel throughout the realm, are slowly going dark turning simple logistics into an involving puzzle. Starvation, sickness, violent weather, and random incidents all conspire to end your journey. In a land slowly sinking into the Wyrdness and torn apart by conflict surviving each day is a challenge on its own. Difficult decisions or harrowing choices wait behind every corner and seemingly minor tasks may reverberate with major long-term consequences. A deep, branching storyline allows you to tackle problems in different ways, ensuring no two games play alike. Blending Arthurian legends and Celtic mythology with a unique vision, it allows you to impact the game world in deep and meaningful ways. The AI needs work, and the battle animations seem a bit average compared to other games in its genre.Tainted Grail: the Fall of Avalon is an unforgettable, solo or cooperative adventure experience for 1-4 players. It doesn’t feel dynamic but more like you are fighting in quicksand. Then the enemy comes at you and tears half your health away. You could swing at your enemy and say to yourself, “That’s a good hit”, but it does nothing. But mind how much you put in as there are limits to how much you can pick up.Ĭombat is the one thing I find in this game to be a little underwhelming. I wouldn’t expect anything less in an RPG. As you go through the game you can loot pretty much anything that isn’t nailed down and stuff it into your backpack. You can also create different loadouts with different weapons and spells to use which is handy. Clicking on a box will open a secondary pop-up screen that shows all the items you have collected for that category. In-game inventory is an easy enough system to manage. Each can help you create a unique character build that suits your play style through the world of Avalon. There are several proficiencies that you can focus on such as sneak, alchemy, magic, evasion, one handed and handcrafting. There are multiple factions working against each other to take control and rule over all the people. You as the player are rescued by a mysterious stranger who wants you to find out what is causing the lands and its people to fall into chaos and kill the one who is behind it. A plague is wreaking havoc across the land and spreading Wyrdness which is a mysterious fog that deforms anything that encounter it. With a story along the same vein as King Arthur: Knight’s Tale, King Arthur is dead and has been for a long time. It’s not all cupcakes and fairy dust like the traditional story of King Arthur … noooo … it’s more darkness, blood and death. The game’s unique story and world has been created by bringing together the legends of King Arthur and Celtic mythology. Tainted Grail is a new early access first-person RPG on Steam, developed by Questline and published by Awakened Realms. I am not one generally for dark, scary games … not at all really, but Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is an interesting one that surprisingly keeps me wanting more.
